Anatomy Centennial Medical Bursary

Annually, hundreds of students pass through the doors of our Anatomy Hall to delve into the basics of medicine through Anatomy learning, which remains as an integral part of medical education. The Department of Anatomy traces its glorious history from its inauguration by Professor JG Harrower in 1922. Since then, Professor Harrower was succeeded by subsequent Heads of Department who have since continued his legacy in maintaining the department’s excellence in academia.

We remained true to our mission, which is to nurture competent and compassionate future medical doctors, dental surgeons, nurses, and other health care professionals for Singapore by providing high quality education. Historically, our department has been recognized for its excellence in teaching clinical anatomy and innovative teaching methodologies, as well as for its outstanding and well-respected teachers. Apart from these strengths, our department has excellent resources for teaching anatomy and a good infrastructure for performing biomedical research. We are also proud to have the ‘state of the art’ Human Anatomy Museum which displays human specimens and provides digital media and is heavily used for medical education.

The Anatomy Centennial Medical Bursary has been established, in commemoration of 100 years of Anatomy in NUS, to alleviate our students’ financial burden while allowing them to focus on their studies and participate meaningfully in the School’s programmes and community activities. A firm foundation year for these medical students is crucial in helping them succeed in their studies and we would like to ensure that no student is left behind in their pursuit of quality medical education.

Proceeds from the bursary will be awarded to medical students from financially disadvantaged backgrounds. The bursary will be crucial in ensuring that these students are able to focus on their medical education without having to worry about taking on additional jobs to supplement their allowance or pay for their school fees.

All matters concerning the bursary shall be solely in the discretion of NUS Medicine and the Department of Anatomy.

Thank you for joining us in achieving this noble cause!
